Bruce Schneier is an expert cryptographer who has designed and co-designed multiple provably secure encryption algorithms and authored many books as well.

LinuxSecurity.com is a news site with many links to interesting articles on Linux security and improving computer and network security with Linux. It is updated frequently and also has a good How-To section.

It contains many links to various project walk-throughs, tutorials, and other interesting things you can do with Linux.
